Salmonella Fears Result in Nature’s Path Recalling Select Granola Products

RICHMOND, British Columbia - Nature’s Path Organic Foods is voluntarily recalling a select group of its granola bar and granola cereal products due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall is a precautionary measure because the peanuts in the products came from the Peanut Corporation of America, Blakely, Ga., which earlier this year distributed potentially contaminated products to more than 100 consignee firms for use as ingredients.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be blooded), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditic, and arthritis.

The potentially affected Nature’s Path products were distributed throughout retail stores in Canada and the United States.

• Nature’s Path Peanut Butter Granola Bar (5 pack)
• Nature’s Path Peanut Choco Granola Bar (5 pack)
• Nature’s Path Peanut Butter Granola (325g)
• Nature’s Path Organic Granola Bars- Variety Pack- 10 Flax Plus Pumpkin and 10 Peanut Butter Chunky

The potentially affected products in the United States are:

• Nature’s Path EnviroKidz Organic Crispy Rice Peanut Choco Drizzle (6 pack)
• Nature’s Path Organic Granola Bar Peanut Butter Chunky (5 pack)
• Nature’s Path Organic Granola Bars Peanut Choco Chocolate Drizzle (5 pack)
• Nature’s Path Organic Peanut Granola Cereal (11.5 oz.)
• Nature’s Path Organic Granola Bars Variety Pack - 10 Flax Plus Pumpkin and 10 Peanut Butter Chunky

Nature’s Path states that only the Peanut Butter Chunky Granola Bars inside the variety packs, sold both in Canada and the United States, are affected by the voluntary recall

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products. As a precaution, consumers who have any of these products should return them to the retail store where they purchased them for a full refund.
