New American Standard Set For Organic-Based Personal Care Products
ANN ARBOR, Mich.- With a newly established standard for organic-based personal care products, consumers will now be better able to judge the quality of the items they buy.
National Sanitation Foundation International, an independent, not-for-profit organization which certifies products and labels for food, water, and consumer goods, has adopted the NFS/ANSI 305 ‘made with organic’ standard for personal care products.
Products covered by the standard include rinse-off and leave-on personal care and cosmetic products, as well as oral care and personal hygiene products.
NSF International says that NSF/ANSI 305 is also the only consensus-based standard for ‘made with organic’ personal care products. It was developed with participation from groups, including: organic personal care manufacturers, trade associations, regulators, organic program administrators, organic product retailers, and others from the organic products community.
The organization added that the new standard allows the ‘made with organic’ claim on products that having an organic content of 70 percent or more, and complying with all other requirements of the standard.
This new standard establishes materials, processes, production criteria, and conditions specifically for ‘made with organic’ personal care products.
